Snowboard cross: Nörl has to tremble for victory in the overall World Cup

Status: 03/25/2023 7:10 p.m

Martin Nörl and Jana Fischer didn’t make it to the final of the snowboard cross World Cup in Canada. With that, Nörl’s lead in the overall World Cup melted away before the decisive race.

Martin Nörl can continue to hope to win the overall World Cup again. After his seventh place on Saturday (March 25, 2023) in the first of two races in Mont Sainte-Anne, Canada, his lead over his closest pursuer, Spaniard Lucas Eguibar, has shrunk by half. Before the final race on Sunday, Nörl still has a 24-point cushion for a possible defense of the season’s title.

Local hero Eliot Grondin secured victory in the province of Québec ahead of Austrian world champion Jakob Dusek. Third was Eguibar. In addition to Nörl, Leon Backhaus was also there from a German perspective, but he did not make it past the round of 16.

Fischer also in seventh place

Jana Fischer also finished seventh. She was initially able to win her quarter-finals, but ended up last in her semi-finals despite leading in the meantime. In the “small final” she was able to secure third place. Victory went to Briton Charlotte Bankes ahead of Chloe Trespeuch from France and Olympic champion Lindsey Jacobellis (USA). Like Nörl, Bankes is close to defending his title in the overall World Cup. However, with 88 points, she has the more comfortable lead over her pursuers. Before the last race of the season, Fischer is ninth there.
