Senasica establishes conditions for the importation of meat from Brazil – El Sol de México

He National Service of Health, Safety and Food Quality (Senasica) established the sanitary conditions for the safe import of bovine meat from two areas of Brazil to carry out a safe meat trade and protect the country’s livestock production.

Regarding the suspected case Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), detected by the Brazilian health authority at the end of February, in a 9-year-old animal from the municipality of Marabá, Senasica indicated that it received a communication from the Ministry of Agriculture of Brazil, to inform that the Reference Laboratory of the Organization World Animal Health Organization (OMSA), in Alberta, Canada, confirmed that it is an isolated case of atypical BSE type H.

According to the OMSA, the atypical form of BSE appears naturally and sporadically in old cattle. It is not transmissible and does not represent any risk to humans or animals. Therefore, Brazil maintains the BSE status of insignificant risk, which is the same as that of Mexico.

To authorize the entry of bovine meat from Brazil to MexicoSenasica also considered the transparency with which the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture handled the suspicion of BSE reported at the end of February, as well as the solidity of its veterinary services by detecting the case quickly and adopting security measures.

The two authorized areas for export beef to Mexico They are from the State of Santa Catarina, whose sanitary status recognized by the OMSA is the same as our country. You can export fresh, chilled or frozen meat with bone.

The other region that protects exports is the states of Bahia, Federal District, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Rondonia, Sao Paulo, Sergipe and Tocatins.
