Schröder becomes the new sports director in Leipzig

With Rouven Schröder, the German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig has got its dream solution for the position of sports director. As the Saxons announced on Tuesday, the 47-year-old signed a long-term contract with the DFB Cup winners.

Schröder had previously terminated his contract with Schalke 04, which had been inactive since October, and RB paid a transfer fee. “Rouven will complete the sporting management of RB Leipzig from April and support me in the areas of squad planning, scouting and licensing,” said RB sports director Max Eberl in a club statement.

Schröder, who has worked in sports management at various clubs since 2010, is looking forward to the new challenge at the club of the two ÖFB legionaries Konrad Laimer and Xaver Schlager. He worked as sports director in Fürth, at Werder Bremen, 1. FSV Mainz 05 and most recently at Schalke 04. From October he left his post there for personal reasons.
