Scheffler-Poston and Day-Kuchar in 8th. Victor Perez saves the honor…

Defending champion and world No. 1, Scottie Scheffler (photo) brilliantly extricated himself from group 1 and will face Saturday morning in the round of 16 the surprise of group 16, JT Poston, undefeated as his future opponent. The winner of this match will cross paths with Jason Day or Matt Kuchar in the quarter-finals. The two other 8ths already known will see Max Homa and Mackenzie Hughes compete as well as Sam Burns against Patrick Cantlay. Clearly victorious over Adam Svensson, 5&4, Victor Perez leaves Austin with panache!

We already know four of the eight round of 16 scheduled for Saturday morning in Austin (Texas) in the latter WGC-Match Play Of the history. Logical winner 3&2 of Tom Kim, Scottie Schefflerfinalist in 2021, victorious in 2022, is obviously the favorite against J.T. Postonthe surprise guest of group 16. The American, 52nd in the world, twice winner on the PGA Tourbeat her 3&1 Maverick McNealy without having ever once been led to the score…

One of these two will find a sacred client in Match Play in the quarter-finals. Jason Daytwice winner in this very special event (in 2014 against Victor Dubuisson in the Arizona desert and in 2016 for the premiere here in Austin), got the better of Collin Morikawa (4&3). The Australian will face the veteran matt kuchar, 44 years old and terribly tough in this exercise. Also a former winner (in 2013 at Dove Mountain), he simply pulverized this Friday the unfortunate Korean Si Woo Kim, 7&6 ! This success, his 36th in Match Play, is historic since it equals Tiger Woodsthree times winner of the discipline in 2003, 2004 and 2008.

The other part of the top of the table seems less “sexy” with a duel between Max Homawho benefited from the package on injury (neck) of Matsuyamaet Mackenzie Hughes. The Canadian qualified on the first play-off hole against Taylor Montgomery after having inflicted a very heavy defeat on this 3rd day: 6&4.

The winner will be opposed in the quarter-finals either to Sam Burnsbetter than Seamus Power today (2 up), i.e. at Patrick Cantlay who definitely took over the left-hander Brian Harman on par 3 of 17 (2&1).

While the other four round of 16 will be known a little later in the day in Austin, let’s note all the same the very nice reaction of Victor Perezwinner with a lot of panacheAdam Svensson. The Tarbais, eliminated the day before, has always been in the lead this Friday, even turning 5 up after only 7 holes thanks to three birdies in a row before folding the case at 14: 5 & 4!
