SC Verl: Kniat rumor, DFB Cup goal and search for opponents for the season opener

At SC Verl, things are running like clockwork in the third third division season. Once again, the East Westphalia are fully on course to stay up.

That the sporting leadership around President Raimund Bertels, sports director Sebastian Lange and coach Michel Kniat SC ext excellent work has of course not gone unnoticed by the competition.

Again and again, Verl professionals are associated with financially stronger or higher-class clubs. The sports club has gotten used to this in recent years.

And also because his trainers are in great demand. For example, promotion coach Guerino Capretti (currently FC Ingolstadt) switched to Dynamo Dresden. And now, according to the “Bild” newspaper, 1. FC Saarbrücken should express interest in Kniat.

This rumor was already around in October. SCV sports director Lange denied an offer from Saarland for Kniat. The current situation is that Kniat has a contract in Verl until June 30, 2024.

We are still looking for an attractive opponent for the season opener. A Bundesliga team would of course be very, very cool.

Sebastian Lange

However, he is also said to have a €250,000 clause in the contract, which allows him to switch to a second division club for this sum. Saarbrücken is not yet a second division team. It remains to be seen whether FCS, but also Kniat, want to wait that long.

SC Verl: From the 2023/2024 season back on the local Poststrasse

At least it should be clear that SC Verl will start the fourth season in a row in the 3rd division next season. Because with ten game days and a twelve-point lead over the relegation zone, the losers should be as good as bagged. Those responsible seem to see it that way too. They even look up cautiously. “We have nine points in fifth place. Maybe there’s still something to do. Because a DFB Cup participation would of course be extremely attractive. Unfortunately, we failed early on in the Westphalian Cup against Delbrücker SC,” Lange explained RevierSport.

Even without the DFB Cup, there should be a very attractive game in Verl in summer 2023. “We’re right on schedule and will return to our stadium for the new season,” reveals Lange. After two years “in exile”, the renovation of the local Poststrasse was completed in a few months. Lange: “We’re still looking for an attractive opponent to open the season. A Bundesliga team would of course be very, very cool.”
