Sailing: the Sail GP and its flying catamarans return to Saint-Tropez in 2023

The F50s – these catamarans equipped with foils, which can fly at more than 50 knots (100km/h) – are returning to Saint-Tropez. For the third consecutive year, the French stage of the Sail GP will stop there on September 9th and 10th. The organizers, who will once again be able to count on the support of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, made the announcement on Monday. This will be the first European Grand Prix of the fourth season of this posh championship, which is expected to feature twelve events around the world.

During the Saint-Tropez stage in 2022, the French crew led by Quentin Delapierre broke a speed record still unequaled in the race, with a peak of 99.94 km / h. “It was a memorable day where we pushed the limits with three crazy races, above 50 knots of speed with eight boats around, full ball. It was hot, the boat was shaking and could crash at any moment. But It was super exciting! We felt that the public had enjoyed the show and we were not far from the podiumremembers pilot of the France SailGP Team. This time, we intend to offer a good final to the French. It’s heartwarming to see that more and more fans are following us and cheering us on.”

The tricolor crew, recent winners in Sydney, currently occupy third place in the general classification, while the third season will end on May 6 and 7 in San Francisco.

A unique device

A unique device will be offered to spectators of the France Sail Grand Prix to follow the races from the front row from the harbor breakwater. Indeed, and this is a novelty, a grandstand will be installed there, as in a stadium, with additional screens broadcasting the race live (1).

Sports and technology enthusiasts and amateurs will also have the opportunity to visit the technical base (the “Tech base”) of the teams, before and after the races (2). And therefore to get as close as possible to the athletes and the F50s.
Another novelty: the Sail GP will join forces with the Nikki Beach: a premium lounge area (3) with a view of the race and the finish line will be set up.

Finally, boaters can also watch the races at sea from their own boat, inside the exclusion zone (4), less than 50 meters from the catamarans.
