Ruud extends his losing streak in Miami

This Sunday’s day at the Miami Masters 1,000, the men’s draw of the Miami Open, confirmed that Casper Ruud is still far from his best level that led him to caress the number one in the world.

Ruud, who started as the third favorite of the tournament, fell in the third round against Botic Van de Zandschulp after the Dutchman managed to come back to win 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4.

A meeting in which Van de Zandschulp asserted his service (12 direct aces) and also his ability to suffer, since he saved 13 of the 15 break balls he had to face while he took advantage of 3 of the 6 breaking balls granted to him by Ruud.

The Dutchman was more successful than the Norwegian in the key moments of the game and managed to win a victory that goes even further if possible in the Ruud’s crisis in this 2023, since after his two games in Miami, the Norwegian accumulates a balance of 5-6 this season that he hopes to turn around on the clay court tour. Van de Zandschulp will now face the Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori in the round of 16, who beat the Japanese Taro Daniel 6-3, 7-6 (3).

Rublev, Rune, Fritz and Sinner do not fail and Medvedev passes without playing

The defeat of Casper Ruud was the only surprise in a day in which the rest of the favorites in the fray got through their games without problems. The Russian Andrey Rublev swept the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic 6-1 and 6-2 and in the round of 16 he will star in a beautiful match against the Italian Jannik Sinner, who defeated the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in two sets 6-3 and 6-4 .

The Dane also reached the round of 16 Holger Rune, who defeated Argentine Diego Schwartzman 6-4, 6-2 in two sets and will seek a place in the quarterfinals, in another interesting match, against the American Taylor Fritz, who beat Canadian Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 6-4.

He will also be in the round of 16 Daniil Medvedev, who went through the round without playing after the withdrawal of Alex Molcan, and who is already expecting a rival from the winner of the match between the Frenchman Quentin Halys and the American Mackenzie McDonald.
