Press conference of the Committee of Arbitrators for the ‘Negreira Case’, live | Medina Cantalejo explains that an arbitrator refused to collaborate in the investigation | Sports

Luis Medina Cantalejo, president of the Referees Committee, and Andreu Camps, general secretary of the RFEF, have appeared before the media to give explanations about the “Negreira Case”. Medina Cantalejo and Camps have wanted to make it clear that the referees have collaborated in the investigation and that all, with the exception of one, have provided all the information that has been requested. When asked about his identity, none wanted to give his name, but they have assured that the referee has not given any explanations for not presenting the required information.

The president of the referees referred to the payments from FC Barcelona to José María Enríquez Negreira (1.4 million in three years) for alleged reports on referees. “There is no evidence that a referee is dishonest. If there has been something, it is related to people who no longer belong to this house”, said the president of the referees, for whom this day is “the saddest day in arbitration”.

Medina Cantalejo insisted on the honesty of the arbitrators and assured that the accusations do not correspond to the arbitral body. “There has been talk of a vice president, his son and FC Barcelona, who are the ones who have to render accounts. What has happened is a shame and it must be cleaned up based on honesty” said the president of the CTA. Camps and Medina Cantalejo have also stated that, as soon as Estrada Fernández’s complaint is admitted for processing, the RFEF will appear in the case.
