Palace shined, New Jersey still lost to Toronto. Vrana made his debut in the jersey of St. Louis

Striker Ondřej Palát scored a goal and two assists to score all goals for New Jersey in the match against Toronto. But his contribution did not help the Devils win, the Maple Leafs won 4:3 thanks to David Kämpf’s recording. Goalkeeper Karel Vejmelka made forty saves to help Arizona win 6:2 over St. Louis. Striker Jakub Vrána has made his debut in the Blues jersey.

The first two thirds of the duel between the Devils and Toronto offered only two goals. The home team responded to Calle Järnkrok’s leading goal in the 37th minute, when Erik Haula put himself through after Palát’s pressure in the goal area. At the beginning of the third period, Mitchell Marner sent the Maple Leafs into the lead, who took advantage of Tim Meier’s hesitation on the blue line and played with the goalkeeper Vítek Vaněček in a separate escape.

However, the Devils’ power play continued and the hosts were able to take advantage of it. Palát got in front of goalkeeper Ilya Samsonov and twice got the puck behind his back. Three minutes later, the collaboration on the Palát-Haula axis worked again and the latter put the Devils in the lead for the first time.

“The boys from the third line are playing excellent hockey. They got used to each other and now they are benefiting from it. Their game is based on excellent movement and pressure on the goal, they are unpleasant for every opponent,” coach Lindy Ruff praised Palát’s formation, whose charges did not manage the end at all a well played match.

Five minutes before the end of the third period, Kämpf challenged Michael Bunting to score with a great backhand and at 57:07, Maple Leafs Auston Matthews shot the winner. The American gunner used the power play after a foul by Meier, whose premiere in front of the Devils fans was bitter.

“It was an unfortunate match, but I’m looking for the good in everything. I have the motivation for the next duels to make up for my hesitations. I’m sure that next time we won’t let our narrow lead be taken,” said the 26-year-old Swiss, who came to New Jersey to end of February from San Jose.

Hockey players St. Louis outshot Arizona 42:28, but failed in the end against Vejmelek. The Czech goalkeeper conceded only twice and was voted the second star of the match for his performance. “What he showed in goal today was incredible. I don’t know what else to say about it,” forward Christian Fischer praised him.

The debutant in the Blues Vrána jersey did not score on his compatriot even once out of six attempts. His goal tally in St. Louis could have opened the scoring in the fourth minute when he got behind the Coyotes defense. In the escape, he chose a backhand loop, which Vejmelka managed.

The native of Třebíč performed the intervention of the match in the middle of the second period. With the score 1:1, Jordan Kyrou and Robert Thomas escaped, whose finish was eliminated by Vejmelka with a catch. “An incredible save that changed the course of the game. The opponent lost a little bit of ground under their feet, while we improved our game significantly,” said Arizona coach Andre Tourigny.

The match between Minnesota and Calgary also offered great goaltending performances. Local Filip Gustavsson and visiting Jacob Markström did not concede in 65 minutes, the Flames players were more successful in raids. Despite the shooting woes, Minnesota extended its point streak to ten games.

Alexandar Georgiev had a flawless performance in goal for Colorado, making 13 saves in a 6-0 win over San Jose. Cale Makar and Valerij Ničuškin shone with four points for a goal and three assists. The defending Stanley Cup champions won after three losses to move ahead of Winnipeg into seventh place in the Western Conference standings.

Seattle hockey players won for the fifth time in a row. They defeated Anaheim 5-2 and are only two points behind West leader Vegas in fourth place. The Golden Knights could bounce back from their pursuers, but lost to Florida 1:2.

Second place in the Eastern Conference was secured by Carolina, which defeated Montreal 4:3 after separate raids. Martin Nečas, after three games in which he scored seven points, came up empty-handed. In the fight for the playoffs, the seventh-ranked NY Islanders, eighth-ranked Pittsburgh and ninth-ranked Florida succeeded. The Penguins thus maintained a three-point lead.
