Osasuna charges against the “deficient” and “improper” technology of the VAR

Osasuna has sent a harsh letter to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) in protest against the “deficient” and “improper” technology of the category that, in his opinion, will be used in the application of the VAR. A complaint that is motivated by the cancellation last Monday of a goal by Ez Abde for offside, in the match that the Navarrese team played against Celta, with a 0-0 result.

The Pamplona entity had already announced that it would formally protest the result of the action, in which the referee annulled the Moroccan striker’s goal after being told so by the VAR. The official images offered by television in no case made it clear that there was an infringement and, in fact, it was perceived that the lines were taken from different points on the arm of the attacker and the defender.

A report as proof

Osasuna goes further and accompanies his writing, as he assures, with “a technical report in audiovisual format that is based on a geometric study in which three-dimensional technology has been used“, prepared by the architect Ignacio Tellado, which would show that there was no illegal position of his footballer and that, therefore, the goal should have gone up on the scoreboard.

“This study also shows that the lines offered by the VAR were drawn incorrectly, which conditioned the arbitration decision to be accurate. This is the fact that focuses our concern, since the substance of what happened is not whether the arbitration decision favors or harms one club or another, but rather the method used to draw the lines is inappropriate for a professional category“, censors the Osasuna statement.

“It is inadmissible that an arbitral decision is determined by deficient technology or a bad application of it. Errors like the one referred to seriously question the use of the adopted technologywhich must be infallible, facilitate the work of the referees and contribute to refereeing decisions being as fair as possible”, continues the text made public by the Navarrese club, which is the same one that has sent to the RFEF and to the CTA.
