Mystery in the Philippines: a medical helicopter disappears with five people on board

The helicopter had taken off on Wednesday morning towards the locality of Brooke’s Point, also in the province of Palawan, but never arrived, added the CAAP.

He had to fly over, for most of his journey, the Sulu Sea for 150 kilometers.

The Philippine Coast Guard said it had deployed a vessel to launch a search between Balabac Island, off the southern tip of Palawan, and Brooke’s Point.

The nationalities of those on board were not disclosed.

The helicopter was chartered by the Philippine Adventist Medical Aviation Services, an organization providing medical transport services in Palawan and the islands of Mindanao and Luzon.

Less than two weeks ago, a Cessna plane carrying four people, including two Australians, crashed into a volcano in the central Philippines. All four occupants were killed.
