Milan Vs Salernitana: Rossoneri Without Italian Taste

Milan

AC Milan did not field any players from Italy as a starter in their 1-1 draw with Salernitana. This happened for the first time in Serie A history.

Milan was held 1-1 by Salernitana at the San Siro in the Italian League continued match, Tuesday (13/3/2023). The hosts took the lead through Olivier Giroud. However, Boulaye Dia’s goal then forced a draw.

In this match, Milan did not field any players from Italy as starters. Rossoneri coach, Stefano Pioli, fielded completely foreign players in the starting 11 line-up.

There are four players from France in line up Milan against Salenitana. They are Mike Maignan, Pierre Kalulu, Theo Hernandez and Olivier Giroud.

Then there is Malick Thiaw from Germany, Fikayo Tomori with an English passport, Alexis Saelamaekers from Belgium, Ismael Bennacer from Algeria, Rade Krunic from Bosnia, Brahim Diaz from Spain and Rafael Leao the pillars of the Portuguese national team, making Il Diavolo completely foreign at the start of the match this morning.

Quoted from Football Italiathis is the first time that Milan has not played a single player from Italy as a starter in the history of Serie A. Previously, the Italian Red Devils had a strong local flavor.

The Milan players even had several times dominated the Italian national team squad. In contrast to its rivals, Inter Milan, who more often rely on foreign players.

But this time, Milan had to rely on foreign players as the main players. The original Italian Milan players sat on the bench in the match against Salernitana.

Call it Davide Calabria, Sandro Tonali, Alessandro Florenzi, Tommaso Pobega, and Antonio Mirante. Florenzi and Tonali were introduced by Pioli in the second half.

Calabria and Tonali are actually two Italian names that Milan really relies on. They had to be left out of Milan’s main squad against Salernitana because they were not in a fit condition.

Milan still failed to win even though they relied on foreign players against Salernitana. This draw leaves them in fourth place with 48 points, 20 points behind Napoli at the top of the standings.
