Mesut Ozil announces his retirement

Ezil has struggled with several injuries in recent years and played only seven matches this season as part of Istanbul “Başakşehir”. The injury also prevented him from playing against RFS in the UEFA Conference League.

Born in Gelsenkirchen, the Turkish footballer Ezil started his professional career in his hometown team “Schalke 04”. During his subsequent career, he played for Werder Bremen, Real Madrid, London Arsenal, Istanbul Fenerbahce and Basaksehir.

With “Real” he won the Spanish Championship and the King’s Cup, but with “Arsenal” he became a four-time winner of the FA Cup.

In 2018, Ezil ended his career in the German national team, in which he scored 23 goals in 92 matches. In 2014, he won the World Cup with the national team.
