For his part, Lionel Messi is currently in contact with Xavi, the Barça coach, always with the aim of returning to his club (almost) forever. According to Catalunya Radio, the entire locker room and technical staff would already agree to welcome back the sevenfold Ballon d’Or.
Last week, Sports world revealed the plan that the Catalan club could put in place to bring the former home back. First condition, and not just any: the Catalan club will take action only if the Pulga does not extend with Paris.
With payroll issues, bringing Messi back could seem very tricky. This is why the Catalan club hopes that the world champion could make a financial effort and have a salary corresponding to the situation of the club. The latter hopes that the human factor will however tip the scales.
An agreement in principle to extend to PSG
As confirmed by RMC Sport in December, an agreement in principle for a contract extension has existed at PSG for several weeks, but several details still remain to be settled and discussions are continuing. “We are committed to seeing them continue, assured Nasser Al-Khelaïfi last Friday to Brand about the extensions of Mbappé, Ramos and Messi. We’re going to look at what we’re doing and how to make sure we can keep going and that we’re doing it right.”
The two parties discuss in particular the duration of the contract. Two possibilities are studied: activate the additional year already optional or sign a new one-year contract with one more season as an option. Salary is also under review. Lionel Messi does not intend to extend on terms too far removed from those of Kylian Mbappé. But PSG are not ready to give in to all the demands of the 35-year-old 2022 world champion.
