The event is called the Ultimate 8 Men’s Basketball Championship. Université Laval has hosted the women’s equivalent of the tournament on four occasions.

Basketball has been successful in Quebec since the Toronto Raptors training camp was held at PEPS in 2019, the organization said in a press release on Thursday.

The Desjardins-Université Laval amphitheater has seen more than 2,000 spectators go through the turnstiles a few times this season.

The Rouge et Or had their best performances at this tournament in 2002 and 2003, when they reached the national semi-final. This year, the team is already guaranteed, for the first time in eight seasons, to participate in the event, which will be held in Halifax.

Including the rugby championship that will take place in the fall of 2023, Université Laval will be in its 17e national event in 11 years, a peak in the country.
