Menpora Calls Severe Consequences of Rejecting Israel at the U-20 World Cup

Task executor (Plt) Menpora Muhadjir Effendy reminded about the violation of the host agreement agreement 2023 U-20 World Cup have serious consequences.

Muhadjir conveyed this in a working meeting with Commission X DPR RI, Tuesday (28/3) evening WIB.

Muhadjir explained that the host status that Indonesia got was not from FIFA’s appointment but from the process bidding or the nomination in August 2019 for the 2021 U-20 World Cup which was canceled due to the pandemic and shifted two years later.

After being confirmed as the host by FIFA, the government and PSSI confirmed six hosting areas namely Palembang, Jakarta, Bandung, Solo, Surabaya and Bali.

In order to organize the 2023 U-20 World Cup, there is a commitment to an agreement carried out by the government, carried out by the provincial government and carried out by the city venue where the match will be held.

“Therefore, if the previous provincial government has provided government guarantee then doing that refusal is indeed quite severe consequences in this context.”

“So it’s not just canceling the warranty but refusing it, of course it’s different. If you just cancel it, it might still be understandable, but if you refuse, of course there’s something we really have to consider right,” explained Muhadjir.

As many as six regional heads have signed an agreement to hold the 2023 U-20 World Cup, namely the Governor of DKI Jakarta, the Governor of West Java, the Governor of Bali, the Governor of South Sumatra, the Mayor of Surakarta, and the Mayor of Surabaya at different times from March 2021 to February 2022

The signing is an extension host city agreement after the postponement of the 2021 U-20 World Cup which was canceled due to Covid-19. FIFA then decided on Indonesia’s status as the host for the 2023 U-20 World Cup.

About a year after signing the agreement to host the 2023 U-20 World Cup, Bali Governor I Wayan Koster then voiced his rejection of the existence of Israel as a contestant in the junior World Cup through the UEFA zone qualification route.

Following the refusal, drawing The 2023 U-20 World Cup which was previously planned to take place in Bali on March 31 was then canceled by FIFA.
