Medvedev sovereign, Hurkacz wins a record match

Indian Wells finalist Daniil Medvedev took his good form to Miami.

The fourth seeded Russian won his opening game in the second round of the ATP 1000 tournament against the Spaniard Roberto Carballes in two sets 6: 1, 6: 2.

Medvedev, who had a bye in the first round due to his seeding, now meets Slovakian Alex Molcan. The Slovakian beat the 28th-ranked Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka in three sets.

Hurkacz wins record match against Kokkinakis

Hubert Hurkacz has a lot more work to do than Medvedev: In the longest three-set match of the year, the Pole defeats the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis 6: 7 (10), 7: 6 (7), 7: 6 (6) and defends no less than five match points.

Hurkacz now meets Frenchman Adrian Mannarino. The Thiem conqueror from Indian Wells surprisingly defeated young US star Ben Shelton in three sets.

Cameron Norrie was surprisingly eliminated: The eleventh seeded Brit lost 3:6, 2:6 against Frenchman Gregoire Barrere.

The second seeded Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas benefits from the non-appearance of his planned opponent Richard Gasquet.
