Klinsmann was presented in February as the successor to Paulo Bento, who left after the World Cup, and the German also brought Andreas Herzog into the “Taeguk Warriors” team as an assistant.

Sebastian Coates (10′) gave Uruguay an early lead, Hwang In Beom (50′) equalized for the home side. Matias Vecino (63rd) made the decision. In the finish, a goal by the South Koreans was disallowed due to a handball recognized after VAR studies.
