Kerim (43) from Hanover smashed 70 baseball bats with his shin

If we bump into little ten on the bed while going to the toilet at night, we would like to scream out loud. The pain goes through the whole body. A man who voluntarily exposes himself to physical pain is Kerim Duygu: martial arts master from Hanover. Because he bangs his shins against baseball bats as often as possible, as quickly as possible and with full intention. It’s about a world record for as many smashed rackets as he wanted to bring back to Germany.

If you ask Kerim why he does something like this, the athlete says: “In martial arts you need challenges. You break bricks, planks of wood. You show what the body can do.” He has been doing this for 30 years. In his “Kampf-Kunst-Center” in Hanover, he trains children, young people and adults in karate or jiu-jitsu, a martial art of unarmed self-defence that originated with the Japanese samurai.

He also appears on stage with his protégés, promotes the sport and shows his “smashing skills”. In 2015 one of his students had the idea: “Try something different.” It wasn’t just bricks or wooden boards that should be smashed anymore – the baseball bat idea was born. And: He wants to set a world record in “splintering”. He did it eight years ago. Back then, 65 racquets burst under his shin – in one minute. But a Japanese snatched the record away from him. So now there was an attempt on an Italian TV show in Milan.
