Judo: final tournament instead of staying up – PSV plans to start dream

The promoted team was the surprise of the Bundesliga opener with victories over Bischofshofen and Stadlau. Flachgau and Pinzgau lost their battles.

PSV Salzburg started the 1st Judo Bundesliga with a convincing performance. The promoted team used their home advantage against Bischofshofen and Stadlau on Saturday to win 4:3 and is the only Salzburg club unbeaten after the first two rounds. Chairman Ronny Tiefgraber said proudly: “We have already revised our plan to keep the class. Now even the Final 4 tournament is tempting us. Let’s see how far we can get.”

Lightning victory and bloody lip

At the start of the home round, the Bischofshofner, who were third in the previous year, were on the mat at PSV. The most important points in the 4:3 victory were made by Tiefgraber’s son Andreas with a lightning win over national champion Pascal Auer and newcomer Philipp Aust, who prevailed against Herbert Wicker. In the fight against Stadlau, Salzburg were already 2-0 down because Andreas Tiefgraber had to tap out with a bloody lip and a severely swollen nose. Aust brought PSV back into play, coach Julius Meinel provided the celebrated equalizer. With Tim Schwarzl’s victory, the hosts were sure of victory, since legionnaire Aleksandar Kukolj could not be defeated again in the heavyweight division. “We didn’t think things could go so well for us right away,” said Ronny Tiefgraber happily. “We still have one legionnaire spot left. But Philipp Aust did so well today that we will continue to have faith in him.”

Bitter defeats

Like Bischofshofen, the JU Flachgau and the JU Pinzgau also had a false start to the new season. The Straßwalchner lost at home 2:5 against Wels and 3:4 against the Galaxy Tigers. The Raurisers had to admit defeat to hosts Samurai 2:5 and Mühlviertel 1:6 in Vienna.
