Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both performed well with the national team. CR7 still managed to stay away from Messi’s pursuit.
Messi and Ronaldo have both played two matches with their national teams. Messi defended Argentina against Panama and Curacao in the FIFA Matchday match.
In these two duels, Messi recorded four goals. In detail, one goal against Panama and a hat trick against Curacao. The additional four goals made Messi have passed the score of 100 goals for the national team and now he has successfully scored 102 goals for Argentina.
But Messi’s efforts to hold the record for the most goals scored for the national team still need hard work. Because the record holder, Ronaldo, is also still running fast.
Ronaldo also scored four goals in Portugal’s two European Cup qualifiers. CR7 scored two goals each in duels against Liechtenstein and Luxembourg.
With the addition of these four goals, Ronaldo has now collected 122 goals. This means that CR7 is able to maintain a 20 goal difference from Messi in the national team.
Ronaldo’s hope to continue to stay away from Messi’s pursuit is wide open. The reason is that in the European Cup Qualification matches, Portugal was placed with countries whose quality was below them.
Besides Liechtenstein and Luxembourg, Portugal is in the same group as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland and Slovakia.
Meanwhile, Argentina so far has no agenda for the next international match. The Copa America that Argentina participated in did not recognize the qualifying rounds like the European Cup.
