Jule Niemeier’s negative run continues at the WTA tournament in Indian Wells. On the other hand, there is better news from Jan-Lennard Struff.

Jule Niemeier continued her negative run in 2023 at the WTA tournament in Indian Wells.

The Wimbledon quarterfinalist lost her opener in California 5-7, 4-6 to Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic and has only won two games on the tour since the beginning of the year.

At the WTA tournament in Monterrey, Mexico, at the end of February, she even lost her first match against qualifier Caroline Dolehide from the USA 1:6, 0:6.

Struff fights his way into the second round

Jan-Lennard Struff, meanwhile, reached the second round at the ATP Masters.

The 32-year-old Warsteiner defeated the Frenchman Quentin Halys 1: 6, 6: 3, 6: 3 in the first part of the “Sunshine Double” and celebrated his first sense of achievement on the tour this year.

In the next round, the German will see Tommy Paul again, number 17 on the seeding list. At the Australia Open in January, the American had thrown Struff out of the tournament.

Indian Wells: Zverev meets Argentines

Olympic champion Alexander Zverev intervened in the game on Friday in the hard court tournament, which is worth around ten million US dollars.

After the bye for the first round, the German number one goes into his second round match against Argentinian Pedro Cachin.

Zverev’s compatriot Oscar Otte plays against number 13 Karen Khachanov from Russia.
