How SU Annen turned up against JC Bottrop after a sluggish start

Witten.
Judo Bundesliga club SU Annen starts rather moderately in the derby against JC 66 Bottrop. Who will win the key fight after the break.

The eternal adversary from the area would almost again become a stumbling block for the judoka Sport-Union Other become. against JC 66 Bottrop if the Witten Bundesliga aces were behind after the first round, they didn’t give a really good picture until then. “But then the boys showed great morale here and made a great comeback,” said coach Stefan Oldenburg on the 9:5 win.

With which the Anneners have already improved the balance compared to the previous year, when it was only enough for a draw against the “Pirates” from JC 66. The Bottropers didn’t bring their 1a formation to the Kälberweg, they only fielded a foreign judoka with the Dutch heavyweight Jelle Snippe. “If someone had told me beforehand that it would be 9:5 for Annen, I would have accepted that with our cast. But after the first round we could do better, we won one more fight than expected”, says JC-66 trainer Markus Wallerich, who didn’t leave the hall disappointed.

SU Annen makes inexplicable weaknesses in round one

At first things went almost as expected for Witten, who had finished third in the Bundesliga last year. As expected, Aeneas Paul (-81 kg) lost early to Hamsat Isaev, but this was followed by three wins for SUA. The Dutch newcomer Koen Heg (-73 kg) won his encounter, as did compatriot Simeon Catharina (-100 kg) and Sirotullo Ikramov (-90 kg), who surprisingly beat Tom Droste after just 49 seconds. After that, there was nothing to celebrate for the more than 300 spectators in the dojo on Kälberweg until the break.

The defeat of Alessio Murrone, who apparently had to lose some weight during the week, was particularly disappointing in the 60 kg duel against Florian Böcker. “Tactically, he just didn’t behave wisely – Alessio can do that much better,” said coach Stefan Oldenburg grumpily. And since Jonas Schreiber (+100 kg; against Jelle Snippe) and Lukas Romahn (-66 kg; against Ilyas Vinayev) also went away empty handed, Annen was 3:4 behind at the break. Was there a risk of a false start like last year?

Dutch newcomer Koen Heg immediately with a great performance

“It got pretty loud in the dressing room. I didn’t like the body language of some of them today,” said the second SUA trainer Marcel Haupt. After a juicy speech and three personnel changes, it was now time to get things back on track. The Dutchman Koen Heg held the key to this. The European Cup winner from Rome moved up to the 81 kg limit – a smart move as he managed to defeat the bulky Hamsat Isaev three seconds before the end of regular bout time with a foot technique and shortly afterwards with a choke hold in the ground fight.

His teammates used this signal to secure a piece of the success cake for themselves. Philip Drexler (-73 kg) won impressively, Simeon Catharina (-100 kg) very calmly and Martin Matijass (-90 kg) with all his class after a good 90 seconds. 7:4 for SU Annen, now victory was already within reach. Once again Alessio Murrone had to fight Florian Böcker, this time in the 60 kg duel he seemed much more determined and after 2:45 minutes he reaped the harvest with a deep shoulder throw – Ippon.

Two defeats for heavyweight Jonas Schreiber

Given that Jonas Schreiber was again defeated by the edgy Dutchman Jelle Snippe, who couldn’t embarrass him at all. Finally, Marek Zimmermann (-66 kg), the newly crowned German U-21 champion, got the final point for 9:5 from SUA’s point of view after 53 seconds against Nicolas Kutscher. “The first lap was really bad today, but then the team turned around a lot. That’s exactly how we have to appear – especially in front of our own spectators,” says Stefan Oldenburg.
