Henry Borges in the campaign to reach his fifth Paralympic Games: bronze in Alexandria

Henry Borges won the bronze medal at the Grand Prix of Alexandria, Egypt, in the category for the totally blind J1 of – 60 kilos, in judo.

The Uruguayan beat Kazakh Temirbolat Tashekenov in the first round and the Brazilian representative Elielton De Oliveira in the quarterfinals.

He then lost in the semifinals against Kapil Parmar of India, who was ultimately champion.

Borges managed to get on the podium by beating the Argentine David Gómez by ippon in the fight for the bronze medal.

The Uruguayan judoka who goes en route to his fifth Paralympic Games, He has competed in two events so far this cycle: the 2022 World Cup and this Grand Prix. On both occasions he was on the podium and won the bronze medal, showing that his level allows him to dream of qualifying for Paris.

His partner, Mariana Mederos, will compete this Tuesday in the J2 + 70 kilos category, for judokas with low vision, in which nine athletes will compete. The Uruguayan’s first rival will be the American Katie Davis, in the quarterfinals. In case of winning, she will advance to the semifinals, and in case of losing the first fight, she will agree to the repechage.
