In Formula 1 they say that becoming a father slows down a driver because they now have more to lose and are no longer willing to take the full risk on the track. Now, tennis isn’t nearly as dangerous as the premier class of motorsport, but youngsters can also have a major impact on a sporting future. Chris Evert definitely sees this connection with Rafael Nadal.

“He was a warrior out there. He always gave 100 percent in training and in matches,” says the tennis legend from the USA on “Eurosport”, “but now he’s a father and I think that changes his perspective has. He now has a clear mission for life after tennis.” Evert believes that this new situation will have an impact on the Mallorquin’s career end: “Due to his injuries and his family, it would not surprise me if these influences accelerate his retirement.

Nadal was injured at the Australian Open earlier this year and hasn’t played a tournament since. Most recently, he canceled the Masters tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami.
