Golf: Tiger Woods back in court

Erica Herman, ex-spouse of Tiger Woods, has asked a judge to invalidate a nondisclosure agreement she says she was forced to sign when their relationship began in August 2017, according to court documents obtained by ESPN.

The civil complaint states that the terms of the nondisclosure agreement were aggressively imposed on Herman by the defendant.

Herman’s attorney, Benjamin Hodas, cites a federal law, the Speak Out Act, which prevents the forced execution of non-disclosure agreements in the case of sexual assault and harassment. The legal documents mention sexual abuse, but it is possible that these allegations do not directly refer to Tiger Woods.

Herman made no direct allegations against Woods.

Neither Herman’s attorney nor Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, has commented on ESPN’s inquiries.

Herman’s attorney alleges that Woods is trying to use this agreement to force Herman to keep certain details of their relationship private. If the judge rules that this agreement is valid, Herman’s lawyer has asked that the limits of what Herman can or cannot reveal be clarified with regard to in particular his “personal experiences”, “experiences involving his family” or “information from sources other than the defendant”. She also wonders about her right to share certain “photos or recordings of her and members of her family”.

Woods, 47, will not participate in the Players Championship this week in Florida. He recently returned to competition after a hiatus of more than seven months. Herman, 38, was not accompanying him to his first tournament of 2023, the Genesis Championship, which took place at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.
