Friday wins second Tennis Europe tournament victory in Vrsar – ÖTV

Only one ÖTV junior ace was at the start of a Tennis Europe youth tournament this week, while the ÖTV youth indoor championships of all age groups are on the program at home. From a red-white-red point of view, the maximum was seen. Because Moritz Freitag celebrated his second Tennis Europe tournament victory at the 40th Memorijal Slavoj Greblo in Vrsar, a Category 1 U12 clay court tournament. In November 2022 he had previously won a Category 2 event in Heraklion on the southern Greek island of Crete. So this time it even worked out at a higher quality event, also thanks to the active support of his brothers Jannis (five years old) and Filip (17 years old), who threw him in for the matches throughout the week and coached them.

Freitag roared through the first three rounds of the tournament in Croatia with impressive ease. The young Styrian finished off the two local heroes Ivan Bobetic, Croatia’s number one, 6: 3, 6: 0 and wild card holder Bruno Zmajic 6: 1, 6: 1 before he also defeated the Slovenian Aleksej Mulej (a Part of the IMG Future Stars) didn’t stand a chance at 6:3, 6:2. In the semifinals, the eleven-year-old lost the only set, but in the end he was able to eliminate the defensively strong Italian qualifier Edoardo Ghiselli 4:6, 7:5, 6:2 despite being behind in the set. As the name suggests, a Friday final was made for Friday. The local youngster showed his best side that day and made the title fight a very clear affair: 6:1, 6:2 over the Serb Viktor Visnic he secured the trophy around noon. Especially in the final, Moritz “played unbelievably”, praised his father Sascha Freitag.

Here are all the results of the Tennis Europe U12 tournament category 1 in Vrsar.
