Holger Rune Escapes Mariano Navone Trap at Madrid Masters 1000

Holger Rune (12th in the world) had doubts, but he escaped the Mariano Navone (41st) trap this Friday in the second round of the Masters 1000 in Madrid. The Dane won 5-7, 7-6 [2]6-4 in 2 hours 56 minutes of play.

After two hotly contested rounds – Navone served to win the match at 6-5 in the second set – Rune seemed to fly away in the last act (5-1). This was without counting on a remarkable burst from the Argentinian, who did not hesitate to release his punches to reverse the trend. Navone recovered to 5-4 and saved four match points before losing.

The Dane, who will turn 21 in three days, will face the winner of the match between the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor and the Japanese Taro Daniel in the third round.
