Foot OL – One billion in the transfer window, OL refused the blow of the century – Olympique Lyonnais

Owner of Chelsea since the departure of Roman Abramovich, Todd Boehly spends lavishly with the Blues and is in the process of buying Strasbourg. The American billionaire was however keen to take over OL.

Already the owner of Chelsea, Todd Boehly still can’t stop splurging financially. After spending 600 million euros in the space of six months, the businessman whose fortune is estimated at 4.5 billion euros according to Forbes is close to buying Strasbourg according to information from The Guardian newspaper. The British media claims that Todd Boehly has wanted to settle in Ligue 1 for several years. If the takeover has not yet been formalized, everything seems to be on the right track for Racing. But before setting his sights on Alsace, the president and general manager of Eldridge Industries tried to afford OL. Information released by the Olympique-et-Lyonnais site which reveals that Todd Boehly tried to get ahead of John Textor.

Todd Boehly tried his luck with OL, in vain

The Rhone media explains that Todd Boehly, who also tried to buy Sochaux or the Girondins de Bordeaux, wanted to place himself in the sale of OL. Nevertheless, the negotiations between Jean-Michel Aulas, the Seydoux family and John Textor were too advanced. Another point was problematic at the time since two clubs belonging to the same owner cannot compete in the same European Cup. If both OL and Chelsea have little chance of playing in the next Champions League, the two clubs aim to play it every year. Fortunately, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin recently hinted at the possibility of reviewing this rule. In particular to allow Qatar to buy Manchester United and participate in the C1 with PSG. Thus, this will allow Todd Boehly to be able to play the cup with big ears with Chelsea and not OL but Strasbourg if the French club manages to reach the prestigious competition.
