The Valencian has spoken with the COPE of Navarra about the dimension of the Count of Godoabout the performance of Carlos Alcaraz in Indian Wells and the return of Rafa Nadal on the clay court tour with the Monte Carlo Master 1000.

Presentation at the Pamplona Tennis Club

“We are going to be in Pamplona and I am very happy to bring the tournament closer to outside of Catalonia. In the end, Godó is an international tournament with history. I am delighted to be able to be there since I have never been able to go and that people have a good time. I sure will.”

His memories of Godó

“I have a memory from when I was a child when I went with my parents and then when I lived in Barcelona as a player. I was able to play four finals there. I never won because of a certain Rafa Nadal. But the tournament has always been in my heart. For me it is more than just a tournament, it is part of my life. Every time I am and now that I work in the tournament I want it to evolve, improve and continue to be one of the best 500 tournaments on the ATP Circuit”.

Where lies the magic of this tournament?

“The fact of the city, that many players love to come to Barcelona, to the Real Club de Barcelona. It is a vintage, historical tournament and where it is still played in a club. Nowadays everything has grown a lot and it is difficult for there to be a club in the city itself where an ATP tournament is held. We are talking about a club, if not the best, one of the most emblematic of our country and the player appreciates that”.

About Carlos Alcaraz in Indian Wells

“I am seeing Carlos very well. In addition, he has won a very good match with Felix, who has not been so good lately. It is clear that since he had the injury, especially before the Australian Open, where he could not go, he is winning matches. He then got injured in Rio de Janeiro but now he’s back well. I see him with options against Sinner. Obviously the four remaining players are going to mark an era in tennis, but, without a doubt, I believe that Carlos has already done it. He has been number 1, he has won a Grand Slam and he is still there. I’m happy for him and I think he’s good for everyone. After Rafa, also have a player who can imitate him in terms of results.

See Nadal prepared for the clay tour

“Rafa is already doing blocks of five days and little by little. I have faith and confidence that he can get to the tour on the ground well and, above all, that he can be in Barcelona. Knowing him, he will be very happy to return. It’s an important year for him, a year where starting in Monte Carlo is going to be good because I think his primary objective is to win Roland Garros and more Grand Slams than any tennis player. Rafa understands and knows that for that he also needs match rhythm and the sooner he has it, the better”.
