Dr. Casimiro García will be proposed as Favorite Son of El Puerto

By the mayor, German Beardo, the proposals to receive the Gold Medals and the title of Favorite Son and Adoptive Sons in its different variants have been announced. In this sense, the mayor has proposed to Tadeo Diaz Ortega as Gold Medal of the city of The Port of Santa Maria in recognition of a lifetime dedicated to judo, being the alma mater of the Club that bears his name and the colors of El Puerto, “always being at the foot of the canyon to train, push and value our athletes”. Germán Beardo explains that it is an honorary title “more than deserved” in gratitude for his career that spans more than five decades, “training many generations of athletes, with talent and discipline, making them Champions of Andalusia and Spain, leading judo to the top and always doing quarry”.

Founded in 1853, “it has always been linked with great pride to the City of One Hundred Palaces, to its Holy Week, to the Patron Saint, to the Plaza Real and to a multitude of important moments in the history of El Puerto; providing great added value to port culture”.

Count with one hundred components who continue to maintain the philosophy of their origins, “being an emblem of El Puerto and taking their name to all the places where they perform their music, enjoying great national and international prestige”.

To this excellent track record, the mayor points out, is added his educational contribution through his music school ‘Fernando Franco’, where many people from Porto are trained.

It is also proposed as Gold Medal of the City al The Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Schoolcoinciding with the anniversary of his arrival in El Puerto 100 years ago. “A century of dedication to teaching values, always looking out for the most vulnerable and leaving no one behind. Focused on education at the service of El Puerto.”

With this, the city wants to “thank you for your unlimited dedication in the classroom and outside of them, teaching and helping countless generations of people from Porto who have passed through your school, and always protecting the most fragile. An emblem of education from Porto that was founded in El Puerto in 1923 in it Mercy and Charity Hospital, turning it into a school for the poorest girls in the city. It is proposed as Adoptive Son of the City of El Puerto de Santa María to Fernando Córdoba. Thus thanking the Chef and manager of the Restaurant ‘El Faro de El Puerto’ “for having brought the name of the city to gastronomic excellence, being a mark of commitment to the quality in a sublime kitchen that fuses tradition with creativity and that is referent of national and international prestige, being a claim for everyone who visits us”.

Fernando Cordoba, native of Cádizis undoubtedly one of the most renowned chefs, faithful to his Lighthouse since 1988, “which has become one of the avant-garde Portuguese gastronomic establishments, which is always a guarantee of the best service and the highest cuisine”.

His perseverance has led him to outstanding recognitions such as two soles from the Repsol Guide, best Restaurant of the Year in the Gourmet Guide or best wine list in the province at the Solera Awards from the Regulatory Council of the Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Denomination of Origin. For all these reasons, Germán Beardo “proposes him to be the Adoptive Son of the city that he has made great with his unstoppable career path“.

It is also proposed as Adoptive Son of the City of El Puerto de Santa María in an exceptional way to the playwright José Luis Alonso de Santos. At the request made by the Academy of Fine Arts Santa Cecilia in commemoration of his 80th birthday and in recognition of his excellent professional career in the theater and for his constant link to El Puerto, always contributing to promoting our culture as a disseminator, writer or theater director.

From Valladolid, Alonso de Santos has his second residence in El Puerto, where he spends long periods of time writing. His works have been published both in Spain and abroad. He has held the Chair of Dramatic Writing at the Royal School of Dramatic Art of Madrid and director of the National Classical Theater Company. holds numerous and prestigious awards theater that reward his work, “wit and brilliance that deserves the greatest recognition in his second home, which is El Puerto, with which he has always maintained a strong bond.”

Similarly, it is proposed Favorite Son of the City in an exceptional way to Dr. José Casimiro García Rodríguez, for his professional and personal career, always taking care of the common good. It is also alma mater of the La Vicuna Foundation, Flag of Andalusia 2023 to Human Values for their cooperation and solidarity in El Puerto and outside of Spain. “His altruism, his closeness, his generosity and involvement catapult him as deserving of all the gratitude and recognition of his city. And especially of the Barriada de Los Milagros, where with his work and effort -so as not to leave anyone behind- he has contributed decisively for their neighbors to have a second chance”.

And, last but not least, it is proposed to Joaquín Corredera as Adoptive Son of the city posthumously. Salmantino, from Porto at heart, who was a councilor and a much-loved man in El Puerto, “both for his professional career as a Primary Education teacher at La Salle and in the political sphere, where he has left an important mark based on integrity and dedication for many years.” Passed away in January 2021being remembered for his high degree of involvement and tireless work for the progress of El Puerto, “always contributing through education, politics and sports to the improvement of our city”.
