Dmitry Orlov is the NHL’s first star of the week

NEW YORK — Boston Bruins defenseman Dmitry Orlov is the National Hockey League’s first star of the week, ahead of Ottawa Senators forward Claude Giroux and Minnesota Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson.

Orlov tied for second in the Bettman League with nine points, including three goals, in four games to help the Bruins, who lead the league at 49-8-5 for 103 points, post a perfect week.

The defenseman acquired from the Washington Capitals earlier this season notably managed two consecutive three-point performances last Tuesday and Thursday.

Giroux also completed his work week with three goals and nine points in four games to help the Senators claim their fifth consecutive victory. The team now finds itself (before Monday’s games) three points from the last playoff spot.

Ultimately, Gustavsson stopped 70 of 71 shots he faced to win both of his outings, posting a .48 goals-against-average and .986 save percentage. He had a shutout in a 3-0 win over the Calgary Flames with 31 saves, after making a career-high 39 saves — and three more in shootouts — in a 2-1 win over the Calgary Islanders. New York.
