Dimitri Van den Bergh again cannot win in Premier League Darts, world champion misses nine-darter by a hair’s breadth

However, the quarterfinals got off to an excellent start for Van den Bergh in the Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin. He immediately took the opening leg from Smith and was on his way to a 2-0 lead, but our compatriot failed to check out 40. Smith didn’t miss and turned the tables. Soon The DreamMaker had their backs against the wall at 1-3.

A backlog that Van den Bergh never came back from. In the end it ended 3-6 in favor of the world champion. An average of 97 over the entire game was therefore not enough for a place in the semi-finals.

Van den Bergh is behind in the ranking of the Premier League Darts with nine points. He has already won five matches, but none in an evening session.

Van Gerwen immediately eliminated

In those other quarter-finals, it first came to a duel between Michael van Gerwen and Jonny Clayton. The Dutchman was allowed to start the game but failed to throw out 40, Clayton took advantage and had a break bite. The Welshman continued on his momentum and it was actually 2-0.

But Van Gerwen is of course not just leading the Premier League Darts. By checking out 67 he fought his way back into the match: 4-4. Clayton did stay upright and had to break again at 5-5 to put Van Gerwen on it in the quarterfinals. He finally succeeded when he found triple 7 with his last arrow.

In his semi-final, Clayton then defeated Gerwyn Price after The Iceman Peter Wright over the knee with 6-3.

Almost nine darter

In the other semi-final, Van den Bergh-killer Smith had to pass Nathan Aspinall (who in turn defeated Chris Dobey). Bully Boy made it 6-4. The Briton had put a unique nine-darter to his name in it. Only the last throw towards double 12 went just wide. To the disbelief of the whole room.

In the final, Smith had to compete against Clayton, who already had a perfect evening. The Welshman put the icing on the cake by beating the current world champion 6-4. In other words, the ninth night of the Premier League is the right one for Clayton to move up in the standings. He climbs over our Dimitri Van den Bergh and Chris Dobey.

There will be a game in Birmingham next Thursday.
