Dimencio Vaughn: in turn to debut with the National Basketball Team

The 26-year-old rookie of the Cariduros de Fajardo in the National Superior Basketball (BSN) is in line to officially debut with Puerto Rico for the Central American and Caribbean Games El Salvador 2023, to be played from June 23 to July 8.

“I think I will be included for that tournament,” Vaughn told Saturday. The new day, after the defeat of the Cariduros in Quebradillas.

“It means a lot. My grandparents are from here. After playing college and now pro, I’ve waited a long time for this moment. I am blessed to have this opportunity,” he added.

Vaughn’s grandparents are from the island municipality of Culebra. Also, she has relatives in Fajardo and Carolina.

The local Basketball Federation intends to use young players for the regional fair, although it remains to be seen if this receives the approval of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee.

Vaughn is coming from playing in NCAA Division I with Rider University, as well as Ole Miss. In his college career, he averaged 11.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists.

In his first games in the BSN, he has served as the starting forward for the Cariduros. In two games with Fajardo, he’s averaging 14.5 points.

Vaughn understands that his NCAA experience gives him an advantage.

“For a rookie like me, I’m older so I understand the game more. I can help in different aspects, such as defense. I don’t care about offense. I let it get to me. That’s just playing with the team and getting victories, ”he indicated.
