Clear defeat for the kangaroos

The second division basketball team from BG Leitershofen/Stadtbergen has no chance against the Fraport Skyliners.

After two wins in a row, BG Hessing Leitershofen/city mountains suffered another defeat in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga on Saturday evening. In the end, the Fraport Skyliners Juniors deservedly lost 78:100 (36:42).

The personal bad news for the Kangaroos didn’t stop before this game either. Although Nino Tomic and Mario Hack-Vazquez returned to the field, Jannik Westermeir (ill) and Nico Lagerman (injured) had to sign off.

Frankfurt had called up all double license players from the Bundesliga and got off to a better start with 11:0. The guests fought their way up to 15:18 (8th), but with another 1:10 run to the first quarter they had to accept a 16:28 deficit. The Kangaroos didn’t lack commitment and struggle, they tried everything, reduced the lead again to 34:39 and had at least a small chance with a deficit of only six points at the break.

After all, the last two wins had only been secured in the second half of the game. But this time it was different, the Hessians, who have been unbeaten since mid-January, continued to play with great concentration and dominated the third quarter almost at will. They provoked many turnovers and scored 30 points in ten minutes during this period. That was too much for the valiant people from Leitershof, so the game was already decided at 72:53.

After that, the Skyliners continued to pull away, but the BG showed morale and reduced the gap a little at the end of the game. The people from Leitershof held ninth place in the table, two points ahead of their rivals Ulm and Karlsruhe. Reaching the eighth and actually last play-off place should now be difficult. If the insolvent team from Hanau were not allowed to play any more play-offs, ninth place in the table would still be enough to reach the extension of the season. There is still plenty of excitement ahead of the next home game on Saturday against BBC Coburg. (asan)
