Chris Evert enthusiastic about Daniil Medvedev: “He’s not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve”

“I love him,” admits Chris Evert when it comes to Daniil Medvedev.

In fact, the fourth in the world rankings is one of the defining figures on the tour. While his athletic class is undisputed, Medvedev regularly offends with provocative statements on and off the pitch.

“Sometimes he’s like a little kid on the pitch. Like a little, mischievous, bad boy,” admits Evert. Nevertheless, she finds the authentic appearance of the 27-year-old “sympathetic”.

From a sporting point of view, after difficulties at the beginning of the season in Australia, Medvedev had a successful run, winning the tournaments in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai in February and March.

Evert: “Medvedev is unpredictable…”

“Sometimes his game is wonderful to watch. You can’t believe the shots Daniil pulls out of a hat. His shot technique is very unpredictable,” praises Evert.

Nevertheless, Medvedev lost 3: 6, 2: 6 in the final of the ATP Masters in Indian Wells against Carlos Alcaraz last weekend.

A setback, yes, but not a catastrophe, according to Evert. Because: “Daniil will probably go back to the drawing board and try to develop a different game plan for Carlos.”
