Podcast #83: Who Really Is Michael Jordan?

– The thriller of the night was to be found in the Philadelphia-Chicago match. The Bulls signed a small feat by stopping the Sixers’ 8-game winning streak and winning after two overtimes. The expulsion from Joel Embiid at the end of the game, Derrick Jones Jr’s counter on James Harden and the 72 points of the LaVine-Vucevic-DeRozan trio got the better of Philly’s tenacity.

Embiid had never lost to Chicago in 13 games and his 37 points, 16 rebounds and 3 blocks almost allowed this invincibility to continue. The Bulls are on three wins in a row and continue this good dynamic which is taking them to the play-in tournament after a few weeks of anxiety.

– It’s always sad to score a career high in a home loss. Julius Randle experienced this feeling last night. The Knicks lost an “open house” game against Minnesota by conceding 140 points despite Randle’s biggest offensive performance in the NBA, author of 57 points (at 19/29), including 52 in the first three quarters.

The Tom Thibodeau of 2010 would have had a heart attack seeing his team so weak defensively and focused on the attack. Wolves, worn by Taurean Prince (35 points) and Mike Conley (24 pts, 11 wt) survived the absence of Anthony Edwards to rediscover the taste of victory and stay in the play-in wagon.

Rudy Gobert finished with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block and 1 steal.

– The Grizzlies raged in the 4th quarter against Dallas by passing a 29-12 to the Mavs, who had to deal with the ankle injury of Kyrie Irving, who left Memphis with a special boot to get around… So that the Texans led by 13 points at the start of the last quarter, Jaren Jackson Jr (28 pts), Santi Aldama (22 pts) and their teammates passed the second and placed a double-lock on this game.

It’s the third victory in a row for Taylor Jenkins’ men, who will recover Ja Morant in the coming days and have a head start on Sacramento in the fight for 2nd place.

– Sacramento, precisely, was surprised by the Jazz, if however we can say that this team is still surprising as it has thwarted the forecasts this season. There too thanks to a better controlled 4th quarter, Utah made the difference. The man of the match on the side of Salt Lake City is called Ochai Agbaji (arrived as part of the trade of Donovan Mitchell). The former Kansas player broke his NBA points record (27 pts), helped by the hyperactive Kelly Olynyk (19 pts, 10 rebounds, 8 wt) and the returning Kris Dunn (18 pts, 10 wt). Eight Jazz players scored at least 10 points. A collective effort that allows the team to return to 10th place, ahead of the Lakers.

– After 11 straight away losses, the Warriors have finally won away from home. They won’t brag since it happened in Houston, one of the league’s dunces. After an already sluggish first half riddled with lost balls (14 for Golden State), the Splash Brothers and their comrades finally took over. Stephen Curry (30 pts), Klay Thompson (29 pts) and Jonathan Kuminga (17 pts) did most of the work in attack, to allow their team to consolidate their 6th place in the West, without letting the Clippers slip away. 5th rank.

– With Tyrese Haliburton, the Pacers are a playoff team. Without him, like that night in Charlotte, they can lose to anyone. After a superb start (+18 at the end of the 1st quarter), Indiana collapsed and left the Oubre-Rozier-Hayward trio (72 pts between them) to have fun and guide the Hornets to their 23rd victory of the season. With 2.5 victories behind on 10th place, the Pacers have almost said goodbye to the play-in tournament.
