Cantù basketball goes to school. First basketball club in Cattolica

The news From the benches to the press room: university students in class with the “Communicating Sport” Master. Students: «We have always given great importance to study, since the days of our College»

From the university benches to the grandstand and the press room of the PalaDesio: university students in lessons from Pallacanestro Cantù. Last Sunday – on the occasion of Cantà-Turin – the first week of the partnership between the Catholic University of Milan and the Brianza club ended.

A partnership that will bring advantages to both: Cantù makes its communication professionals available and, at the end of the “Communicating Sport” Master organized by the Milanese university, the company will give an aspiring journalist (or communicator) the possibility of activating a internship in the club’s press office.

Directly on the field

Engaged in this experience, students of the Master – coordinated and directed by Professor Paola Abbiezzi, professor of History of Radio and Television and Radio and Television Journalism – attended the competition won by the biancoblù, seeing up close how the communication office works of an A2 series club, participating in the post-match conference of coaches Meo Sacchetti and Franco Ciani.

In the previous days, however, the communication manager of Pallacanestro Cantù, Riccardo Berti, and the social media officer, Samuele Nava, were protagonists in Cattolica. They held a three-hour lesson in the Cattolica classroom, illustrating the relationship with the media and the role of social media.

Objective: to create an exchange of ideas and experiences on topics related to traditional and digital communication, sports journalism and the social responsibility of a sports club.

To complete the classroom training part, at the end of the course the Catholic University will provide a list of male and female students of the Master’s, from which Pallacanestro Cantù will be able to draw to select a suitable profile for the activation of a three-month internship in a company.

Pallacanestro Cantù is the first basketball club to have signed a partnership with the Master “Communicating Sport” which, over the years, has collaborated and continues to collaborate with leading realities such as Milan, Inter, Coni, Dazn, Dmtc, Eurosport, Federbasket, Hellas Verona, Rcs Sport Events, Redbull Italia, Lega Calcio Serie B, Lega Pro and many others.

“Happy and Proud”

«We are happy and proud to be able to collaborate with the “Communicating Sport” Master at the Catholic University – explains the president of Pallacanestro Cantù, Roberto Allievi -. Our club has always attached great importance to study, just think of the experience of College Cantù which, starting in the 1970s, hosted the most promising young Italian players on the basketball scene, allowing them not only to play basketball, but also to study and graduate. Now we bring our experience to the classrooms of the prestigious Catholic University, opening up to future sports communication professionals».
