Bundesliga – Wolfsburg vs. Union: Kovac substitutes the equalizer | Sports

First the Berlin goal knot bursts, then Kovac changes the balance!

Wolfsburg and Union Berlin split 1-1 on Sunday evening. In a rather tired kick, Union only takes the lead with a penalty – before Wolfsburg equalizes late.

What’s going on there? Union professional chokes on the sidelines

70. Minute: Union Berlin’s Aissa Laidouni falls in the penalty area. Guilavogui only touches him lightly when the ball is actually already gone. Penalty for Union! Josip Juranovic confidently converts centrally and can thus write his first Bundesliga goal in the history book.

Union had previously gone three Bundesliga games without a goal – and had never scored in Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. Both negative series are now ending. Still, no happy ending for Union.

Because then Wolfsburg is lucky fourfold: Kevin Paredes and Patrick Wimmer come on the pitch alongside Jakub Kaminski and Ridle Baku. Just over two minutes after being substituted on, Wolfsburg equalized: Paredes assisted, Wimmer shot from the right (84′)! Double joker combo on goal – and all four substitutes were on the ball before the goal. Coach Niko Kovac exchanged the equalizer!

Despite the equalizer, it’s a mixed second half of the season for VfL: Wolfsburg has only won one of the seven games so far. That was on matchday 22 in a 2-0 win in Cologne.

► Union currently has a triple burden. Only on Thursday did the Köpenicker play in the round of 16 of the Europa League against namesakes Union Saint-Gilloise from Belgium. In a grueling game, the Berlin Union had fought for a 3:3 and came back three times from behind. Match winner against Brussels was Sven Michel. He scored the last goal to make it 3:3 – and was allowed to play from the start in Wolfsburg as a kind of reward.
