Baseball: Huskies open at home

The French Division 1 baseball championship begins this Sunday, March 19, 2023 for the Rouen team. By hosting the Montigny Cougars, the Huskies of Rouen intend to mark the way to the title with a first imprint.

The 2022 season had ended in apotheosis for the Huskies: champions of France, winners of the Challenge de France and the European Cup, the Rouennais had won everything on the baseball fields. The objective will be … to do as well, if we are to believe the club manager, Boris Marche: “We will play all the competitions to win them, it is quite clear in our heads.”

After an off-season of several months, during which everyone was able to talk independently, it’s time to get back to the competition. “Some have gone to the French team, others on a training course in Japan, still others have come to hit a few balls alone or in pairs. The group reunion took place at the end of January, and the first collective training is quite recent” , confides Boris Marche. It may take one or two games to adjust the automation, but after all, it’s the same with the competition.

The teams to beat in the league? More or less the same as last year: Sénart, Savigny, Montpellier, “and even Toulouse which seems better structured to me”, adjusts the manager. If the workforce remained the same Huskies side, three new players arrived from Venezuela to strengthen the pack. Javier Hernandez will again be from Rouen this year, bringing the contingent of foreign players to four.

This Sunday, March 19, it is Montigny who shows up at the Saint-Exupéry stadium. A team that had given the Rouennais a hard time last season, it was already on the inaugural day of the championship.
