Baseball: Canada does not miss its entry to the World Classic with an 18-8 victory over GB

Canada started its preliminary round of the World Baseball Classic strong on Sunday, beating Great Britain 18-8.

Due to the spread rule, the game was called off after seven innings, but with their 18-point performance, the Canadians tied the mark set by Japan in 2006 against China.

The Quebec players were able to do well in this game. Minnesota Twins prospect Édouard Julien homered on the first shot he saw in the first inning as leadoff.

Gunner Phillippe Aumont took over in the first inning after starter Cal Quantrill struggled, who only pitched two-thirds of an inning. Aumont managed to get Canada out of trouble first. It ended up being used for 1.1 innings. He inherited the victory.

Otto Lopez of the Toronto Blue Jays had two hits in five appearances and two RBIs.

For his part, Abraham Toro drove in three runs with two hits.

“I would like to score 18 every game we play,” Canada coach Ernie Whitt said after the game. This will make things a little easier. Britain, they kept fighting, fighting. »

Owen Caissie homered in the win.

Tyler O’Neill and Jacob Robson had four hits in as many appearances.

Canada will be back in action on Monday against the United States.
