RSC Anderlecht summoned HUMO in general and Jan Hauspie in particular after an article in which the daily operation of Purple & White was razed to the ground. The journalist in question responds to the fuss for the first time.
“RSC Anderlecht demands 25,001 euros”, confirms Jan Hauspie Cafe Constant. “What can I say to that? I’m counting my money and then we’ll see when we end up in court. It’s a bit of a shock. I haven’t experienced a summons in my journalistic career.”
The journalist therefore experiences the whole situation as intimidating. “There were also intimidating telephone calls to me from the club during the last days of my writing process. The piece was not about Wouter Vandenhaute, Marc Coucke or Peter Verbeke. I asked myself questions about how a football club works.”
There have also been harassing phone calls to me from the club during the final days of my writing process
“I then made contacts and sought answers,” concludes Hauspie. “I don’t think it’s abnormal that as a journalist you ask yourself questions about the situation in which a club has found itself. And certainly not if it’s a club with the status of Anderlecht.”
