Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan give praise to Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Rambitan after winning in the first round All England 2023.

The Daddies won two straight games 25-23, 21-18 over their junior at Utilita Arena Birmingham, Wednesday (15/3). Even though they won, Ahsan/Hendra faced fierce resistance from Pram/Yere.

“For the first time, we thank God that we were able to get through the first match, the match was quite tough because Pram/Yere also played very well. Earlier we stayed focused even though we were left far enough behind, the important thing is we don’t want to give up just yet,” said Ahsan.

“They started playing fast right away, and we weren’t ready to anticipate it. After the interval, we tried to catch up, then they made a lot of unforced errors in the final points, the easy balls were dead, their fault there,” said Hendra.

Ahsan/Hendra have won the All England title twice in 2014 and 2019. Last year they also succeeded in becoming finalists. Even so, Ahsan / Hendra said that this year the competition in the men’s doubles was very tight and would make it difficult for them.

“This year will definitely be more difficult, we want to focus on tomorrow’s match first. The opponents will not be easy, Lucas Corvee/Ronan Labar from France,” said Hendra.

Meanwhile, for Pramudya/Yeremia, the match against Ahsan/Hendra was a valuable experience. Many lessons can be learned from fighting Ahsan/Hendra, seniors and role models.

“In the first game, we actually played well, we had a pretty good lead. Only at the last moment, when we started to catch up, we even hesitated a lot, so we made our own mistakes. This is what we have to fix, how to adjust our focus,” said Yeremia.

“We learned how to play more tactically, be calm and increase the quality of our shots,” concluded Pramudya.
