60th Army Judo Championship 03/08/2023

Two contenders during the championship

The General Military Academy (AGM) of Zaragoza has hosted the first phase of the 60th Army Judo Championship, held at its facilities on March 1. This phase, attended by soldiers from numerous units, faced judokas of the same category (weight and sex) in a competition that qualified for the Armed Forces Championship.

  • 60 kg: legionary horseman Jiménez –Brigade “Almogávares” VI–.

  • 66 kg: horse cadet Mier –AGM–.

  • 73 kg: lieutenant Fernández –Brigada “Aragón” I–.

  • 81 kg: Sergeant Martínez –General Command of Ceuta–.

  • 90 kg: soldier Buendía – “Guzmán el Bueno” X Brigade.

  • 100 kg: soldier Trevijano –Brigada “Extremadura” XI–.

  • +100 kg: Calvo legionary knight – “King Alfonso XIII” Brigade of the Legion.

For its part, the women’s classification was as follows:

Medium weight: soldier Aranda –Brigade “Aragon” I–.

The following day, an “open” type competition was held, characterized by eliminating the weight categories and facing any two rivals, with soldier Buendía – “Guzmán el Bueno” X Brigade – taking first place.

It should be noted that the level of the competition was very high, since the vast majority of the participants had a judo black belt (with personalities with a level of up to 4th Dan). This led to category bouts with sophisticated and complex executions of techniques and throws, which require a lot of training and hard work. At all times, the competition was characterized by respect for the opponent and camaraderie.
