On February 25 and 26, the 55th FZ FORZA AMOR Tournament kicked off the Master circuit. Exciting finals set the tone for the rest of the season! With more than 190 players and great finals, we can look back on a successful jubilee tournament.
In the mixed doubles Master, the seeded couples, Alex Vlaar/Rosalie Teuben and Jasper Koppen/Alida Chen, reached the final. This became an exciting battle in which the first game was won by Jasper and Alida. Alex and Rosalie recovered nicely and won the second game, after which they managed to keep the initiative and thus fulfill the role of favorites.
For the women’s singles Master, Groningen’s eyes were on second-placed Jamie Logt, unfortunately she did not live up to expectations and ended up in the quarterfinals. The final was played between Diede Odijk and the surprise of the tournament, Manon Middendorp. Unfortunately, her good form over the weekend just wasn’t enough to keep Diede from winning.
In the men’s singles Master, all four seeded players managed to reach the semi-finals as expected. The final was then played between Dennis Koppen and Lars Kros. The first game was convincingly won by Dennis Koppen. The second game showed a bit more tension and Lars Kros managed to pull this game to himself. The tension of the second game was not continued in the third game, Lars Kros was on steam and convincingly won this last game and thus the tournament.
After playing three semi-finals, winning the semi-final women’s doubles Master, it was no longer possible for Raquel Humphris to suppress the symptoms a fourth time and unfortunately had to give up due to illness. Diede Odijk and Rosalie Teuben, who had qualified directly for the final after winning in the group, were therefore declared the winners.
After winning the group, Lars Kros and Rens Lagrouw first had a semi-final, which they beat Maurice Paassen and Thomas Sibbald. Dennis Koppen and Alex Vlaar were lucky to be the first placed couple to advance directly to the final after winning the group. In the final, the favorites managed to live up to their role by winning in two games.
As an organization we can look back on an extremely successful weekend, in which the finals in all categories were often decided in exciting competitions. In addition, a number of players from GSBC AMOR were also in the finals, so that some prizes remained in Groningen. We are already looking forward to the 56th edition of the AMOR Tournament and hope to make it just as great a success!
