Abensberg, Stadt. On Saturday and Sunday, February 25th and 26th, the German Judo Federation (DJB) will determine the German champions in the U18 age group in Leipzig. TSV Abensberg is represented with four hopeful talents in the title fights.

For Lisa Howard (up to 40 kg), this is the second national championship she will compete in after 2022. Last year, Lisa Howard secured third place. “After the bronze place last year, if things go well, she’s capable of another podium finish,” says youth coach Peter Dremov. In the weight class up to 44 kilograms, Grace Storm qualified as the southern German champion for the national competition highlight.

Storm, who is in her first year under 18, has already secured medals at the national tournament in Holzwickede and at the Dutch Open in Eindhoven (Netherlands) in recent months. “The young whirlwind is certainly one of the strongest judoka in her weight class,” said Dremov. Storm is also a candidate for a podium on a good day.

Severe flu infection

The third in the group of TSV fighters will be Christina Fischer in the weight class up to 48 kilograms. Last year’s Bavarian champion won one silver and one bronze in qualifying for the German championship. “Christina has been able to defeat some strong competitors in the past.” After surviving a severe flu infection, Peter Dremov hopes that “Christina will be fit again in time to be able to bring her full potential to the mat”.

The women’s quartet is completed by Emma Listl. The Bavarian champion in the weight class up to 63 kilograms was able to get a taste of international competition at the top level last year. “After a weight class change at the beginning of the current year, it’s not yet clear where Emma will be able to fit in at the top German level.” However, her recent successes in the Bavarian and southern German title fights give reason for confidence. The women’s competitions take place on Sunday.
