At TSG Hoffenheim, which crashed on relegation rank 16, the management is canceling the traditional winter celebration. The question arises whether this is blind activism. After all, you are more likely to meet the normal employees than the professionals responsible for the situation.

The employees of TSG Hoffenheim recently received mail from the management. However, what Frank Briel, Jan Mayer and Denni Strich had to deliver was not particularly pleasant: The trio canceled the traditional winter celebration planned for March 6th in a Mannheim event location. “We can well imagine that you are not in the best of moods to celebrate at the moment. Even on the outside, no one would understand if TSG Hoffenheim invited to a gala evening at this difficult time for the club,” the message said.

On the one hand, that is of course correct. On the other hand, the question must be allowed: Isn’t this about blind activism that also hits the wrong people? Because what can the “normal people” at the office, whose monthly salary, unlike the vast majority of professionals, not in six figures, for the sporting failure that has persisted for months? At first glance, the unloading may still make sense in order not to make yourself vulnerable to the boulevard and to avoid a headline like “Hoffenheim celebrates relegation”. At second glance, however, the question arises: Wouldn’t a celebration for all those whose jobs might even be threatened in the event of relegation be a more appropriate sign without the professionals? At least it would underline the appreciation for the work of the 160, 170 permanent employees outside the licensed player area, which the managing directors also mentioned in the letter.

TSG have been waiting for a Bundesliga win since October 14, 2022, when they won 3-0 at FC Schalke 04. Even under the new coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, the hoped-for turnaround has not yet materialised. In the table, the Kraichgauers fell to relegation rank 16 after the 0-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund last matchday. The management had already canceled the dinner before last weekend with the reason: “Our focus is on the current situation, which we accept and which we are opposing with all our might. We are convinced that we will master this precarious situation together and this one We can then celebrate success together.” The question arises whether this is the right sign or whether the internal climate is suffering even more from the cancellation.
