NBA – Torrey Craig, Josh Okogie or Damion Lee know that their playing time will take a hit.
The latter took advantage of the departures linked to the arrival of “KD” (Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson) to slip into the Suns’ five and post his best career offensive sequence: more than 21 points on average (55% on shots including 55% from distance, 15/27), 5 rebounds and 2 steals over four games.
What allow him to keep his place in the five, alongside Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, despite the integration of Kevin Durant?
« One must determine rotations and an alternation of five. It will be a transition for the staff, not so much for the players, to understand which groups work, how to finish the quarters… We have to (refer) Kevin’s use over the course of his career and see which best matches the way we play with Book, Chris and DA », develops Monty Williams.
Kevin Durant disrupts everyone’s playing time
The latter has already used 22 different fives this season. In the last three games, he trusted Josh Okogie, as well as Torrey Craig, with the three indestructible starters. One of the two men (Josh Okogie or Torrey Craig) is therefore likely to stay in the major five to complete the defensive dimension of a generally more attack-oriented five.
Monty Williams has other new hand cards since the Suns have recovered TJ Warren, Darius Bazley or Terrence Ross, a priori all destined to come out of the Phoenix bench.
The 22 games remaining at the Suns must allow them to rethink this distribution of minutes. “ It’s about seeing these guys make mistakes and correcting them so that maybe in the last 10 or 15 games of the season we’re full and everyone is on the same page.
», posted Josh Okogie.
Damion Lee, who himself experienced variations in his playing time last year with the Warriors, recommends to his teammates, ” whether the minutes are reduced or increased, to fill [leur] role and to try to do it at a high level. ‘Cause even when we get Landry back (Shamet) and C-Payne (Cameron Payne), they’re just going to have to understand that to be great and accomplish what we seek to accomplish, there must be sacrifices. »
