The 2023 European Youth Championships of kata and kumite are underway in Cyprus

Rome, 31 January 2023 – It’s all ready for i Youth European Championships 2023 (Cadet/Junior/U21) on stage at the Kition Athletic Center in Larnaca (Cyprus) from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 February. The event, gathering of the future stars of European karate, awaits the participation of hundreds of young people from all over the continent.

The blue team, in retreat at the Olympic Center yesterday and today, will leave tomorrow morning and arrive in the port city of Larnaca in the evening. 41 blue men and women called up by the Technical Management between individual kata, team kata and individual kumite, in the three age groups provided. The athletes will be accompanied by a large federal delegation, led by Vice President Benetello and councilors Alessia Coppola Neri and Daniela Berrettoni and made up of 10 coaches and 8 referees.

The race calendar is divided into three days.

Sunday 5 February will be exclusively reserved for the finals for gold (afternoon) and bronze (morning) of all participating categories.

Friday 3 and Saturday 4 will be qualifying days. All kata categories will compete on Friday morning, while in the afternoon it will be the turn of kumite U16 (cadets). Saturday, however, space for all categories of kumite U18 and U21 (junior and senior U21).

The national youth karate team comes from recent extraordinary results, such as the 19 medals collected in 2022 between the European Championships (12) and the World Championships (7) for the Youth. Doing better will not be easy but the goal, as the National Technical Director Luca Valdesi hoped in an interview after the 2022 World Youth Championships, is to improve the color of some medals.
