Wuelfrath. The German Championships in Judo took place in Stuttgart with Wülfrather participating. Sophie Püchel made it onto the podium.

Numerous top athletes met on the competition mat at the weekend to fight for the coveted national medals. Sophie Püchel from TB Wülfrath started in the strong weight class up to 57 kilograms.

The young woman from Wülfrather was already in very good shape beforehand. Already at the beginning of the year, Püchel came back from the international course in Austria with a good feeling. “Once again, our fighter was able to prove her good form under the pressure of the national championship,” summed up the Wülfrather club.

The student was consistent and in top physical form. Sophie Püchel confidently designed the fights in the preliminary round up to the pool final, which she reached early. Here she met a fighter from Hanover. Here, too, Püchel fought at high speed until she made a mistake opening the grip, which was immediately punished with a shoulder technique by the opponent. The TBW athlete then had to continue fighting her way through the consolation round. She managed this with a strong clock frequency and she won two more encounters. With that she moved into the small final, which she won in extra time against a very experienced fighter from Lower Saxony with a full point and thus secured third place in the national championship.
